Hello traveler.
We are Rosa Escandell and William Kikanae Ole Pere, sharing sunset and laughs in our beloved African savannah.
As you can imagine, we were born in two very different worlds, but life brought us together to share a dream: that the Maasai Community will be masters of their destiny. Like other indigenous communities around the world, our traditional way of life, herding and nomadism, is threatened and no longer allows us to survive.
The easiest thing to do would be to give up, but when you get to know us you will see that this is not our way.
In 2005 we created together ADCAM, a non-profit association that fights for the Maasai to have a future, with projects such as SAWA MARA, our sustainable Eco Lodge in Kenya, Nomads, a very special co-working, MARA VISION SCHOOL, our school-residence, and a cooperative in which more than 1,000 Maasai women work.
Now that you are here, you are already part of our family. You can help us by visiting SAWA MARA, buying Masai handicrafts in our e-commerce, making a donation, or simply talking about us in your environment.
Rosa traveled to Kenya in search of an international cooperation project related to African women.
William Kikanae went to Nairobi every year for many years, a journey that lasted many hours or even days in search of help from the government or someone to help him realize a dream he had as a child. Create a school in the middle of the Maasai Mara for children without resources and thus be helping Masai women and mothers, since he could not have that complete education despite the efforts of his mother that she fell ill and died prematurely .
Fate brought them together and in 2005 they created Adcam (Assoc. for Development, Alternative Trade and Microcredit) with a lot of effort, Rosa from her influence, funds and work from the northern hemisphere and in the field, William raising awareness in his community, seeking support and the right terrain. Primary school began first, currently with 250 boys and girls, 80 of whom live in the boarding school due to the great distance from their homes.
After school, the Women Project was created so that finally more than 1,200 Masai women between Kenya and Tanzania had work and their own funds through microcredit making Masai handicrafts. Once these projects saw the light of day and were developed, the Adcam Solidarity Camp was born, today Sawa Mara Eco Lodge, which thanks to its clients, thanks to you, supports 75% of the Ong and thus can grow and help more children, women and Maasai warriors.
